No Man Left Behind

November 2022

The Men Who Risked It All is a student made British centred Word War Two fictional drama short in the tradition of The Great Escape (Sturges, 1963), A Bridge too Far (Attenborough, 1977), Battle of Britain (Hamilton, 1969) with more modern influences from Band Of Brothers (2000),The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (Herman, 2008), Dunkirk (Nolan, 2017). The reality-world of No Man Left Behind is serious and gritty. Considering the creative vision, this is a pastiche of earlier British war features, and will involve character archetypes contemporary to that time, e.g. a self-assured and unshakable British Officer, a plucky lower-ranking British soldier, and a German who follows unenviable orders. However, modern influences regarding class-consciousness and the concept of citizen soldiers will be addressed in the relationships of the three men and will serve the basis of their negotiation.Due to the limitations of the brief regarding violence, character numbers and single location, suspense through time (or lack thereof), highs stakes and uncertainty, in a confined space, giving a claustrophobic feel, and action will be limited to off-screen, aural elements of war, e.g. artillery fire, fighter planes.
